.:: Carbonless copy paper
Carbonless copy paper (CCP) debuts in 1954. In 1960s reports of symptoms associated with CCP begin surfacing. After years of using by normal and business users scientists from University of Washington studied if carbonless copy paper emits formaldehyde.
As a result, The National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health initiated its first probe into possible adverse health effects related to CCP. One report concluded that this kind of paper possibly
caused a potentially life-threatening reaction in susceptible patients. But a few years later NIOSH said there isn't enough scientific evidence to conclude that a relationship exists between CCP and reported health effects. In opinion scientists from University of Florida "working closely with carbonless copy paper over a long period of time may cause severe health problems such as chronic fatigue, sinus difficulties and central nervous system depression”. And „Scientists suspect that a toxic chemical, toluene diiso cyanate, also may be encapsulated in the bubbles. Even though the amount of this chemical would be very small, Schmidt said toxicologists can determine if chronic exposure to it could build up to a person’s threshold level. Schmidt and his colleagues seek funding to continue with this aspect of the research". It doesn't sound good but how to eliminate these items from officces environmental? More detailed research showed that:
"results from air samples showed the same elements discovered in the carbonless copy paper were present in the air of the office using large quantities of the paper". Uff, so I won't die because of printing!
